UNIPGC Supports youth development through grassroots Football Tournaments In Nigeria

The United International Peace and Governance Council of Africa (UNIPGC AFRICA), the African continental chapter of IPGC , USA has demonstrated maximum capacity in promoting grassroots development in Nigeria for supporting the just concluded U18 football tournament which took place on Tuesday 27th Dec.2022 at the Ojokoro housing estate football field, Meiran Community in Lagos State.

Speaking at the just concluded Tournament themed ‘Securing a sustainable and peaceful future for all,’ at the final match won by Fackson Tofido Football Academy, UNIPGC Director General for Africa and IPGC Global Vice President
His Excellency Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah, said: “sports programmes are powerful tools for grassroots development and learning, from an early age, sport provides children, including the most marginalised, with opportunity to develop their physical abilities and health, to socialise, to build leadership skills, to foster lifelong learning and to learn and have fun.”

He also emphasised the importance of sports to the wellbeing of young people, development of the society and the economy if properly enhanced. He added that "Vocational training, internship and business development, especially for young people is paramount for Societal development^'. Therefore urging governments at all levels to do more in training and developing young people to reduce youth restiveness and various social vices.

The Chairman of Fasido Tofido Football Academy, Mr Ofi Olutola said grassroots football major problem is funding and inadequate government support, which is not encouraging participation, development and growth of football in the country and he thanked His Excellency, Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah for coming through with financial and moral support for the success of the tournament..
He added that talented coaches like Mr Yussuf Olwadare Farouk who coached tofido football team should be encouraged in all ramifications. 

The UNIPGC Grassroot Development program through sport aims to scout and develop talents as well as raise fitness consciousness and mass participation in sports and recreational activities amongst the Nigerian citizenry.
